This product also contains a checklist and explanation for writing a CER essay (claim, evidence, reasoning) that can be used as an extension activity. The checklist contains sentence starters and tips for student success. It also aligns with the MLA format of citing textual evidence within a paragraph. I always begin with the graphic organizer on one day and then move to the essay on the next day. Students are always excited when they realize that they have already done half of the work!
